Georgia appeals court will hear Trump bid to remove prosecutor

The Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia on Wednesday agreed to hear former President Donald Trump’s appeal to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the prosecution against him. Willis’ office has charged Trump and several of his associates with seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

What’s this about? Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled in March that either Willis or special prosecutor Nathan Wade had to leave the case. He found that the two had created an air of impropriety around the case by engaging in an extramarital affair while working together. Later, on the same day, Wade resigned and Willis accepted his resignation. Trump and other defendants appealed McAfee’s ruling weeks later, saying that Willis and Wade should be off the case.
