Gay lobby group founder charged with raping a 15-year-old boy
Portland police last week arrested the co-founder of Human Rights Campaign for the felony sexual abuse of a 15-year-old boy. Charges against Terrence Bean, 66, include two counts of third-degree sodomy. Bean was booked on Nov. 19 and released on bail the same day.
HRC, which touts itself as the “largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered Americans,” took in more than $53 million in 2013. HRC also supports abortion rights. Bean co-founded the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund as well, and he was a delegate at each Democratic National Convention between 1992 and 2008. HRC recently launched a campaign against pro-family activists, producing a report conservatives liken to a hit list.
Oregon law defines third-degree sodomy as engaging in “deviate sexual intercourse with another person under 16 years of age or causing that person to engage in deviate sexual intercourse.” The charges stem from an alleged encounter with the boy at a hotel in 2013. Bean’s former boyfriend, Kiah Lawson, 25, has also been charged in the case.
