Funeral arrangements set for American missionaries killed in Haiti

A spokeswoman for the families of Davy and Natalie Lloyd said on Friday that the bodies of the slain missionaries had landed safely at an airport in Kansas City, Mo. The spokeswoman, Cass Bowen Anderson, said the public was invited to line the streets along the route to pay their respects. Police escorted the bodies as they were transported from the airport to Neosho, Mo., on Friday afternoon.

WORLD is covering the funerals with permission of the families.

Have funeral arrangements been announced? Visitation was held Monday, Anderson said, and the funeral was scheduled for 10 a.m. CT on Tuesday. Both events will be held at Bible Holiness Church, 906 N. Summit Street in Neosho.

Is the public invited to attend? In a previous statement, Anderson noted that space inside the church is limited. Those attending the visitation were asked to be brief so the family could speak with as many people as possible. The funeral service is reserved for friends and family directly connected to the Lloyds. However, the family has agreed to publicly share a livestream of the service. A graveside service will be private.

How did the tragedy take place? The Lloyds, along with mission worker Judes Montis, were shot to death by Haitian gang members on May 23 after they left a church event in Port-au-Prince. The young couple served as full-time missionaries with Missions in Haiti Inc. The organization has operated a school, church, bakery, and shelters for children on a compound in the Bon Repos neighborhood on the north side of Port-au-Prince.
