Army Maj. Nidal Hasan’s execution by firing squad is scheduled for Dec. 3, 2026, acting secretary for the Army Adam Telle said Tuesday. Hasan killed 14 people, including soldiers and an unborn baby, in a 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. He admitted that the attack, which also wounded 32 people, was motivated by support for the Taliban. Hasan’s death will mark the first military execution in over 60 years.
The execution is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. Central time on the appointed date. The commandant of the United States Disciplinary Barracks will serve as the chief execution officer, according to Telle. Hasan is paralyzed from the waist down due to injuries suffered during his rampage. It’s unclear whether his disability will prompt modifications to standard protocols.
President Donald Trump recently approved Hasan’s execution and his manner of death, which was recommended by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The U.S. military last executed someone by firing squad in 1945.
