Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Wednesday presented the Governor’s Medal of Heroism to Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trumbower and seven of his officers. They bravely and quickly confronted a shooter who attacked the campus nearly two weeks ago, the governor said in a social media post. DeSantis commended the officers for running toward danger, neutralizing the shooter, and protecting FSU students and staff.
Local law enforcement including the FSU police officers wounded the shooter and took him into custody less than five minutes after the shooting began, according to the City of Tallahassee Police Department.
What happened in the shooting? A 20-year-old FSU student on April 17 fatally shot two people on the school’s campus and wounded six more. The shooter was still in the hospital on Wednesday after police shot him in the jaw, local news reported. He had not yet been charged due to his inability to appear in court.
