Former NFL All-Pro Darren Sharper sentenced to 18 years
Darren Sharper played 14 seasons for three NFL teams and became a Super Bowl champion with the New Orleans Saints in 2010. But shortly after he retired in 2011, reports started to come in about his off the field behavior. Today, a federal judge sentenced Sharper to 18 years in prison for drugging and raping as many as 16 women in four states. Sharper pleaded guilty or no contest in a New Orleans federal court, as well as state courts in Louisiana, Arizona, California, and Nevada. Sharper spent more than a year as a commentator for the NFL Network before he was arrested in January 2014 on two separate counts of sexual assault. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl five times and was part of the NFL’s 2000s all decade team. Sharper finished his playing days with 63 interceptions, sixth all-time at the time of his retirement.
