Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announces U.S. Senate bid
Hogan announced his intentions in a video posted to social media on Friday. The Republican hopes to replace retiring Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., and touts that he doesn't “come from the performative arts school of politics.”
Who exactly is Hogan? Hogan served two terms as Governor of Maryland. He has positioned himself as one of the Republican party’s most vocal critics of former President Donald Trump. He floated the idea of a third-party run for president before endorsing former Republican South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
Who will his Democrat opponent be? Maryland Democrats will have a primary between Rep. David Trone, D-Md., and Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. President Joe Biden won Maryland by 33 points in 2020.
