Focus on the Family launches search for next leader
Focus on the Family has started its search for a new president, ministry spokesman Gary Schneeberger told WORLD Friday. The ministry has set the stage for a leadership transition within the next 12 to 18 months, he said. The new president would take the reins from current President and CEO Jim Daly, who has led the Colorado Springs-based nonprofit for nearly two decades, Schneeberger said. Depending on the timing, the transition might line up with Focus on the Family’s 50th anniversary in 2027, he noted.
Daly has planned to transition as he approaches his 65th birthday, Schneeberger said. He added that no crisis has caused the search. Daly’s goal will be to model a healthy leadership transition, he added.
Focus on the Family was first founded by Dr. James Dobson in 1977. The ministry said it now reaches millions through radio, podcasts, and digital media. Its programs have provided Biblically-founded advice on marriage, parenting, foster care, adoption, special needs, and spiritual development, Focus on the Family said on its website.
What has marked Daly’s tenure at Focus on the Family? Daly has drawn from his own experiences in foster care to champion foster care and adoption initiatives, according to the ministry’s website. He has also focused on helping couples build stronger marriages to raise better kids.
The next president will have big shoes to fill, said Ed Fry at FaithSearch Partners, the organization leading the hunt for the new leader. Faithsearch Partners said individuals interested in the role can reach out to their organization.
