Boston financial group launches tool to promote Biblical investing

A Boston-based financial group unveiled a free investing tool this week to help Christians ensure their financial investments align with their religious beliefs. Eventide Asset Management’s Good Investor Screening Tool allows users to search mutual funds, ETFs, and publicly traded investments for potential ethical issues. The program flags any investments associated with abortion, alcohol, gambling, pornography, and tobacco, according to the company.

The program also provides users with research on why these industries can be particularly unethical due to inherent exploitation, addiction, and other pathways their investments enable real-life harm, Eventide explained. A fundamental goal of investing is to supply capital to companies that bring true value to the world, Eventide CEO Robin John said in a statement. Hopefully, faith-based investors can coalesce around these five areas as the minimum standard to uphold for investing with integrity, he added.

Is this the only such tool available? More financial companies have launched similar tools as the concept of Biblically responsible investing has gained popularity in recent years. Aquinas Wealth Advisors operates what it calls a faith and finance score to give to provide users with a Biblical evaluation of their investing profile. This free tool also highlights businesses associated with abortion, pornography, and LGBTQ activism. Other religious finance groups, like the Timothy Plan and Inspire Investing, specialize in managing Christian investments that align with Biblical values.
