Federal judge’s son killed in home attack
Daniel Anderl, the 20-year-old son of U.S. District Judge Esther Salas, answered the door to their home in New Jersey on Sunday when a gunman in a FedEx uniform shot and killed him. The gunman also wounded her husband, defense lawyer Mark Anderl, in the attack, said U.S. Chief District Judge Freda Wolfson. Salas was unharmed.
Who was behind the attack? Officials said the identity of the gunman is still not known. The FBI on Sunday tweeted it is looking for one suspect and welcomed any helpful information. President Barack Obama nominated Salas to the U.S. District Court of New Jersey in 2010, and the Senate confirmed her a year later. She was presiding over an ongoing lawsuit filed by Deutsche Bank investors, who argued the company made false claims about its anti-laundering policies and failed to monitor “high-risk” clients including convicted sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein.
