FBI investigating Clinton Foundation

The FBI is investigating the Clinton Foundation over claims Hillary Clinton gave political favors to donors during her time as secretary of state, according to a report by The Hill. Republicans have long criticized the connections between world leaders and the Clintons, noting Hillary Clinton’s ties with the foundation run by her husband, former President Bill Clinton, didn’t really end when she joined the Obama administration. The Hill first reported the FBI investigation Thursday, attributing the information to anonymous sources. But on Friday, a Clinton spokesman seemed to confirm it. “Let’s call this what it is: a sham,” Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill told the newspaper. “This is a philanthropy that does life-changing work, which Republicans have tried to turn into a political football. It began with a now long-debunked project spearheaded by Steve Bannon during the presidential campaign. It continues with Jeff Sessions doing Trump’s bidding by heeding his calls to meddle with a department that is supposed to function independently.” According to The Hill, FBI agents in Little Rock, Ark., are taking the lead in the investigation. Although they have interviewed only one potential witness in the last month, more interviews are expected in the next few weeks, according to sources.
