Bank building explosion in Ohio kills one, injures seven
The Youngstown Police Department late Tuesday warned residents to avoid the downtown area after an explosion. Authorities were managing the scene, but residents were told to avoid the area so emergency personnel could move about without obstructions.
What happened? A video posted on social media seemed to show the moment of the explosion shortly before 3 p.m. on Tuesday at a Chase Bank in downtown Youngstown. Local media reported that the person who died in the explosion was an employee at the bank, died in the explosion. Seven more people suffered injuries, including one who remained in critical condition Wednesday morning, according to local media reports.
What caused the explosion? A construction crew working in the basement of the building heard hissing from a natural gas leak. They called emergency services and fled the building just minutes before the explosion, local media reported.
