“Evil” neonatal nurse convicted of killing seven babies
A British jury found nurse Lucy Letby guilty on Friday of killing seven infants and attempting to kill six others. Letby worked in the neonatal ward at the Countess of Chester Hospital in northwest England from 2015 to 2016. Police found notes in her apartment describing herself as “an evil, horrible person” and that she “killed them on purpose.” The jury deliberated for 22 days before convicting her, and could not come to a unanimous decision on several of her other cases.
How was she able to kill so many infants? Family members of the victims said they were grateful to jurors, who were required to sit through 145 days of given evidence. Letby was convicted of intentionally harming and killing infants in a variety of ways, including by interfering with their intravenous feeding tubes and breathing tubes.
