Europe sanctions Iran for war drones, will train Ukrainian troops
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Thursday that Germany will train a full brigade of 5,000 Ukrainian troops during the winter in Germany. The training comes as part of a European Union project to train 15,000 Ukrainian troops in Europe—mostly in Poland and Germany. Scholz said the training should be complete by spring. He also added that Russia’s missile and drone attacks on Ukraine are war crimes.
What’s being done about those “war crimes”? On Thursday, the EU sanctioned the company that made the explosive drones, Shahed Aviation Industries, and three generals in the Iranian military for supplying the drones to Russia for use in Ukraine. Iran said the accusations that it is selling drones to Russia are “baseless.”
