D'Souza resigns

The Board of Trustees of The King’s College, New York City has accepted the resignation of the school’s president, Dinesh D’Souza, effective immediately.

Board chairman Andy Mills said in a prepared statement, “After careful consultation with the board and with Dinesh, we have accepted his resignation to allow him to attend to his personal and family needs. We thank him for his service and significant contribution to the College over the last two years.”

The King's College Board of Trustees named D’Souza president in 2010. His resignation comes after two days of intense controversy following a story by WORLD documenting D’Souza’s relationship with a woman who is not his wife (see “King’s crisis,” Oct. 16).

The board has asked Mills to assume the position of interim president and will immediately begin a search for the new president. Mills urged the King’s community to pray for D’Souza and his family during this difficult period.

At its regular meeting today, the board of directors of WORLD put the following prayer in its minutes:

Our Heavenly Father, we come to you in humility through the saving merits of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we pray, we are stirred by the Holy Spirit to cry out for your mercy on all of your people.

All-too-frequent reports of the sinful failing of our accomplished leaders bring us no joy. Instead, the searching light of your Holy Word illumines our hearts and minds to our own flaws and failures.

For the sake of the glory of your Name, for the progress of your Kingdom, and for the good of your people and the world, we humbly beseech you to forgive us all. May your wise and overwhelming providence cause these painful and unsettling circumstances to accomplish a greater good of divine blessing.

To that end, we specifically pray for the needs and transition of the board, the faculty, staff, and students of The King’s College. We more broadly pray for your gracious work of holiness and wisdom in all who lead in schools, churches, government, and families. Please refine the public and personal life of each person involved in this heart-rending story. May the spiritual life, family, and good work of Dinesh D’Souza be filled with your grace, healing, and restoration in the time and manner that you alone know to be best.

And finally, Lord, may each of us truly and fully repent of our own sins that harm your cause and hinder your rule in our world. We humbly rejoice in the great gospel truth of our salvation, that “if we confess our sin, you are faithful and just to forgive our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Believing this to be true, we claim this promise for us all through Jesus Christ’s finished work of redemption. In His Name we pray. Amen.
