Drone strike kills six Kurdish fighters on base housing U.S. troops

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq on Monday claimed responsibility for an overnight attack on the al-Omar coalition base in eastern Syria. The U.S.-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said the drone struck a training ground Sunday, killing six of its fighters. U.S. authorities have not reported any casualties among American troops stationed at the al-Omar base. The Iran-backed militant group also claimed responsibility last month for the attack on the American Tower 22 base in Jordan that killed three U.S. Army Reserve soldiers.

Were there other strikes over the weekend? The U.S. military on Friday attacked targets in Iraq and Syria in response to the Tower 22 strike. American troops will continue to target Iran’s proxy forces if they launch more attacks on American troops, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday. The U.S. Central Command on Sunday said it struck four anti-ship missiles in Houthi rebel-controlled areas in Yemen. The United States and Britain over the weekend launched a second wave of strikes against the Iran-backed Houthis to weaken their ability to attack ships in the Red Sea.
