The Christian broadcaster died on Thursday after health struggles made worse by a recent back surgery, according to a statement from Daystar Television Network. Her condition worsened in the last few days more seriously than anyone expected, leading to Joni’s death, despite a dedicated medical team and prayers from around the world, the ministry wrote.

Joni co-founded Daystar in 1993 with her late husband, Marcus, who passed away in 2021. She appeared on camera in addition to working behind the scenes. At the time of her death, she was president of the organization, which describes itself as the largest Christian broadcast network in the world. Daystar characterized Joni as an inspiration to millions through her fearlessness and boldness. She practiced unparalleled love and compassion, and stood up for righteousness even when it was unpopular, the ministry wrote.

The Texas-headquartered network has been criticized for including prosperity gospel messages alongside more mainstream Christian preaching. Several TV personalities left the network in recent years while it faced a scandal. Joni Lamb was accused of covering up a case of abuse, according to stories published by Roys Report. Daystar is owned by the Word of God Fellowship Inc., a nonprofit entity.

Joni is survived by her husband of three years, Doug Weiss, along with her children, Jonathan, Rachel, and Rebecca. There are no words to capture the grief from Joni’s passing, Doug wrote in a Thursday statement. He shared gratitude for the kindness and prayer the family received, and asked for continued prayer.

Joni’s death triggered an outpouring of memorials from religious and political leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Bible Experience Museum founder Greg Locke, and televangelist Benny Hinn.
