Congresswoman Boebert switches districts ahead of 2024 race
Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., hopes to represent the 4th Congressional District in the 2024 election cycle. She confirmed her intention on Wednesday to leave southwest Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District and run for election in the eastern district of retiring conservative Rep. Ken Buck. Boebert described Buck’s district as “hungry for an unapologetic defender of freedom.” She also warned Republican voters against “allowing Hollywood elites and progressive money groups to buy the third district.”
Why is she switching districts? Critics argue Boebert is switching to a more conservative district to guarantee re-election after winning her seat by just 546 votes in the 2022 election. Boebert herself seemed to allude to the theory, saying, “I promised I would do whatever it takes to stop the socialists…that means staying in the fight.” In the 3rd Congressional District, she would have faced Republican primary challengers before a rematch with Democrat Adam Frisch, a former Aspen city council member running a well-funded campaign.
