Rep. Jordan questions FBI testimony on memo about Catholics

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Wednesday sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray accusing several FBI field offices of assembling a memo that said traditional Catholic groups could be hotbeds for domestic extremism. The letter, which Jordan wrote alongside Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., requests further testimony and internal FBI communications about the situation.

What does the FBI have to say? Previously, Wray had testified to Congress that only one FBI field office in Richmond, Va., had been involved in constructing the memo. Wray also told Congress that he had been “aghast” to find out about the memo and immediately withdrew it. Wray’s testimony to Congress was “accurate and consistent,” the FBI said in a statement to the New York Post.
