Closing arguments wrap up in Trump’s New York business fraud trial
Prosecutors and defense lawyers finished closing arguments late on Tuesday. Attorneys for former President Donald Trump delivered their arguments first, followed by prosecutors. Lawyers for Trump had rested their case a week ago—only a day after prosecutors rested theirs. Jury deliberations were set to begin Wednesday.
What’s this about? Prosecutors allege that Trump falsified business records to hide payments he made to suppress information that could have been harmful to his 2016 presidential campaign. Some of the payments, according to a statement of facts related to the indictment, were made to suppress information about Trump’s alleged extramarital affairs. Trump denies wrongdoing.
