Cleveland Clinic settlement commits $2M for detransitioners
The Cleveland Clinic Foundation agreed that it would not offer sex-rejecting procedures to minors for several decades, the Justice Department said Friday. In a legal settlement between the healthcare provider and the department, the clinic also agreed to provide $2 million in restorative medical care for detransitioners. It will provide the funds regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. The clinic must pay a penalty of $308,000 to the Justice Department.
The Justice Department, in return, agreed to drop allegations that the clinic submitted false billing information to secure insurance coverage for sex-rejecting procedures on minors. The Cleveland Clinic denied those allegations, according to the department. The state of Ohio banned such procedures in 2024, but the state Supreme Court is evaluating a challenge to that law.
Didn’t something similar happen in Texas recently? Texas Children’s Hospital in May settled with state officials and the Justice Department. In that case, the hospital agreed to create a detransition clinic offering free treatments for the first five years. The hospital also committed to stop offering transgender procedures for children.
