Christian apologist confesses inappropriate behavior

Larry Taunton, a Christian apologist and founder of the Fixed Point Foundation, addressed accusations of marital infidelity in a statement posted online Wednesday. “Last autumn I confessed to my wife, family, and the board of Fixed Point Foundation that I had engaged in inappropriate (consensual) behavior outside the bonds of my marriage some time ago,” Taunton wrote. “I resigned as the executive director of Fixed Point and have been in marriage and personal counseling as I seek healing and the forgiveness of those I have hurt.” AL.com reported that Taunton had affairs with two young women on staff at Fixed Point, but Taunton did not address that specific accusation in his statement. Fixed Point is known for organizing debates between Christian and non-Christian thinkers. In his 2016 book, The Faith of Christopher Hitchens: The Restless Soul of the World’s Most Notorious Atheist, Taunton chronicled his relationship with Hitchens, which developed after the two debated each other. Taunton resigned from the foundation in late 2017, citing exhaustion and difficulty recovering from a serious cycling accident in 2015, according to AL.com.
