China retaliates with tariffs during trade fight with U.S.

China on Monday began enforcing a raft of new tariffs on American goods in response to a 10% tariff the Trump administration imposed on all goods from China. Beijing is levying a 15% tax on coal and liquified natural gas, along with a 10% tax on crude oil, agricultural equipment, and some large vehicles coming from the United States. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun on Monday called for the two countries to resolve the escalating trade war and said such tit-for-tat tariffs have no winners. Beijing last week also opened an antitrust investigation into Google.

Has Trump threatened to install any other tariffs? President Donald Trump on Sunday said he would roll out a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports. The proposed taxes would be levied on top of existing tariffs. Canada, Mexico, and Brazil are among the top suppliers of steel to America. Canada, China, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates have supplied large quantities of aluminum.
