China won’t sell weapons to Russia or Ukraine
Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said Friday that Beijing will maintain its neutral stance on the war in Ukraine and will not sell arms to either side. China will also regulate the export of items that could serve for either military or civilian use. Beijing has not condemned Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine and the countries maintain close economic and political ties. Qin said Beijing is willing to facilitate peace talks and the Chinese defense minister is scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart next week.
What have European leaders been saying about China’s actions? German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during a visit to Beijing on Friday said China has a responsibility to help end the war. China is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and other European leaders have said its support of Russia violates China’s commitments to the UN.
