“Catastrophic scene” after Tulsa shooting

A gunman carrying a rifle and handgun opened fire Wednesday inside a medical building on the Saint Francis Hospital campus in Tulsa, Okla. Eric Dalgleish, deputy chief of the Tulsa police department, confirmed four people were killed, multiple victims were injured, and the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Responding officers found the shooter and the victims on the second floor of the Natalie Building, which houses an outpatient surgery center, a breast health center, and an orthopedic clinic. Police Capt. Richard Meulenberg described the medical complex as a “catastrophic scene.”

What sparked the attack? Dalgleish said it remained unclear what prompted the shooting. Police responded three minutes after 911 dispatchers received the report at 4:52 p.m., and they made contact with the gunman about five minutes later, Dalgleish added. Authorities have not released any information on the dead. Funerals began this week for some of the 19 children and two teachers killed in last week’s mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas. At least 10 people died on May 14 in a racially motivated shooting at a Buffalo supermarket.
