Candidates stare down South Carolina primary

Former President Donald Trump on Friday morning was headed toward South Carolina’s Republican presidential primary election Saturday with a commanding lead. Real Clear Politics aggregate polling analysis placed him more than 20 points ahead of his biggest remaining challenger, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Haley has insisted that she will not drop out of the race, even if she loses the South Carolina primary election. Trump’s campaign earlier this week published a memo titled, “The end is near for Nikki Haley.”

What about Democrats and independents? The Democratic primary in South Carolina occurred earlier this month, where President Joe Biden sailed to an easy victory, according to WORLD’s 2024 Election Center. Real Clear Politics aggregate polling analysis gives him a more than 60 percent lead over his two biggest challengers. Meanwhile, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. continues to run as an independent candidate.
