Canadian church granted funding for increased security after attacks

Calgary Life Church received $10,740 from Canadian Minister of Public Safety Dominic LeBlanc on Wednesday to purchase and install locks, motion detectors, door contacts, glass break detectors, and more. The equipment was part of a Securities Infrastructure Program.

What is this program? The Canadian government uses the program to provide physical security equipment to communities at risk of hate crimes or other such attacks. Institutions can apply for reinforced windows and doors, security cameras, and other security-focused renovations to their buildings. The program also offers on-site security training.

Why do churches need this? Churches in Canada have become common targets for arson attacks ever since claims emerged of mass burials located on the grounds of church-associated residential schools. Authorities have yet to find confirmation of any mass graves on the sites of any residential schools.
