Canada ramps up response to steady stream of migrants
The Canadian military has deployed about 100 soldiers to the Quebec–New York border to prepare housing for the increasing number of asylum-seekers arriving from the United States. The Canadian military, in a statement Wednesday, said the soldiers would help prepare tents that can hold about 500 people and prepare lighting and heating equipment. They will work alongside the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canada Border Services Agency, the military said. Thousands of migrants are fleeing the United States to Canada through a back road in upstate New York. An estimated 400 people crossed the border on Sunday alone, Canadian officials said.
