California sees rare tornado over weekend, more storms expected
A small EF-1 tornado ran through central California’s Santa Cruz County on Saturday and left at least five people injured, according to the Scotts Valley Police Department. The storm brought winds up to 90 mph and lasted less than 10 minutes, the National Weather Service said. The tornado overturned several cars while downing trees and powerlines, the NWS added. High winds across the whole region prompted San Francisco’s first-ever tornado warning.
Is more extreme weather expected? Meteorologists warn residents in states in the northwestern United States to expect more rain from another storm brewing off the coast Monday into Tuesday. The predicted storm will bring high winds to the northern Sierra Nevada mountains and along the coast, but mostly bring heavy rain and some snow to Northern California, according to Accuweather.
