Bus crash on Virginia highway kills 5, injures dozens
A bus traveling southbound on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Va., crashed into six vehicles in the early hours of Friday, killing five people, the Associated Press reported. More than 30 other people were injured, with three in critical condition, state police said.
All of those who died were in vehicles struck by the bus. The bus driver apparently failed to slow down as other vehicles slowed approaching a work zone on the highway, state police said. Charges against the driver were pending, according to the Associated Press. The bus was reportedly operated by E&P Travel and was headed from New York to North Carolina, according to Charlotte-based news outlet WJZY.
Officials closed all southbound lanes for several hours after the crash and sent traffic to detour routes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
