Buffalo suspect indicted for murder

In Payton Gendron’s first court appearance Wednesday, his lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. A grand jury indicted the 18-year-old on a single count of first-degree murder that covers all 10 deaths in the shooting at Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, N.Y., on Saturday.

Are prosecutors considering other charges? They are still investigating the possibility of hate crime and terrorism charges. Shortly before the attack, the suspect posted hundreds of pages of writing detailing a fascination with white supremacist ideology he found online. Eleven of the 13 people he shot were black. He was silent during his brief court appearance Thursday and he is now jailed without bail. Meanwhile, Leslie Rogers, an employee of Tops, has accused a 911 dispatcher of hanging up on her during the shooting. County officials have placed the dispatcher, who has not been identified, on administrative leave with the possibility of termination.
