Bob Dole receives Congressional Gold Medal

Leaders in Washington, D.C., took some time away from the bitter budget and immigration battle Wednesday to honor former Sen. Bob Dole with Congress’ highest civilian award. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., presented the Congressional Gold Medal to Dole at a ceremony at the Capitol attended by President Donald Trump and leaders from both parties. Dole, 94, is a World War II veteran and was the 1996 Republican presidential nominee. As a senator, he helped craft major legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act. He now joins an exclusive group of honored recipients that include President George Washington and Mother Teresa.
