Biden slams Dobbs decision
President Joe Biden called the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson ruling Friday a “deliberate effort” to subvert the laws of the nation. He described the moment as “solemn” and said he mourned the court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which declared a constitutional right to abortion in 1973. The president sympathized with Americans upset about Friday’s ruling, but he asked protesters to remain peaceful, calling violence wrong, whatever the circumstances.
What does Biden plan to do? The president promised to protect women’s ability to travel to other states to obtain an abortion and to improve access to FDA-approved drugs to end pregnancies. But he said the only way abortion-on-demand can continue nationwide is if Congress codifies it as federal law — a move that is unlikely under the current makeup of Congress. He urged voters to make their voices heard in the upcoming elections. “This fall, Roe is on the ballot,” he said.
