Biden indicates he will not commute his son Hunter’s sentence
U.S. President Joe Biden on Thursday said that he would not commute his son Hunter Biden’s sentence on three felony gun-related charges. “I’m not going to do anything,” Biden said during comments at the Group of Seven summit in Savelletri, Italy. “I abide by the jury decision. I will do that, and I will not pardon him,” he said. A Delaware jury found Hunter Biden guilty of lying on a federal form to purchase a firearm and of possessing that firearm while addicted to illegal substances. The court has not yet issued a sentence.
Why does this matter? Before the jury found his son guilty, Biden had said that he would not pardon his son. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday had failed to clarify whether Biden might commute his son’s sentence, saying she didn’t have that information.
