Biden campaign leans into abortion rhetoric for 2024 run
Vice President Kamala Harris will launch a “nationwide reproductive freedoms tour” on Monday in Wisconsin, marking the 51st anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. Harris described those who oppose abortion in a statement as “extremists” who “wage a full-on attack against hard-won, hard-fought freedoms.” On Tuesday, Harris and President Joe Biden are scheduled to headline a rally in Virginia, criticizing GOP efforts to protect the lives of unborn babies. Virginia Democrats won a majority in the state legislature by campaigning on the issue of abortion. The Biden team is also reportedly planning to launch a new media campaign molded around abortion advocacy, targeting swing voters and women in battleground states.
Why does Biden believe campaigning on abortion will win him reelection? The president’s team expects abortion to be a persuasive issue among swing voters this year, with Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez stating, “A vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is a vote to restore Roe.”
