$25 million settlement reached in Trump University cases

President-elect Donald Trump has agreed to pay $25 million to settle the Trump University fraud cases. The deal announced today settles a lawsuit filed three years ago by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and two class-action lawsuits filed in California by former students. The suits claim Trump University failed to deliver on its promises and misled students by calling the unaccredited seminar program a “university.” Trump has denied the allegations and said during his campaign that he would not settle the cases. The settlement, which does not require Trump to acknowledge wrongdoing, eliminates the possibility that Trump would have to testify during his transition to the presidency. Trump’s attorneys last week filed a petition to delay a trial until after Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20. A federal judge in California was set to consider arguments on the request today.
