Trump to speak in Davos amid protests
The president is scheduled to address the World Economic Forum this week
SWITZERLAND: Brutal weather and protests will greet President Donald Trump as he travels to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week, attempting in an address planned for Friday to reset world opinion on his administration.
TURKEY: A high-level U.S. delegation in Turkey to discuss deteriorating relations is expected to raise the “wrongful detention” of American pastor Andrew Brunson. Jailed for 15 months, Brunson recently missed his daughter’s graduation. His wife Norine posted a message from him this week, concluding, “May the Lord accomplish his purposes, do a deep and thorough work in me—and do it quickly!”
Meanwhile, Turkish forces attacking Kurdish militia positions inside Syria appear to be withdrawing.
AFGHANISTAN: Americans are among those killed in the 13-hour Taliban siege of the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, but their identities have not been released.
BELGIUM: Belgian nurses and social workers who specialize in treating dying patients are quitting their jobs because palliative care units are being turned into “houses of euthanasia,” a senior doctor has alleged.
PERSECUTION: Six Christian women a day are victims of sexual harassment, rape, or forced marriage, according to “shocking” statistics compiled by Open Doors, and experts suspect the actual number may be higher.
