WORLD Radio - Podswag

NICK EICHER, HOST: It’s Monday morning, start of a new work week for The World and Everything in It. Today is the 18th of February, 2019. Good morning to you, I’m Nick Eicher.

MARY REICHARD, HOST: And I’m Mary Reichard.

You know, before we get started, let me just say: you’ve been so good,  to share this program with family and friends. Just quickly, a word of encouragement to continue doing that. And we’ve made the encouragement tangible with sharing swag, available for you at wng.org/podswag.

EICHER: Yes, a specific reward when you introduce three friends to The World and Everything in It.

Now, let me praise George Grant now by offering my own abbreviated wordplay.

The term swag is sometimes known as an acronym for “stuff we all get.” Now despite the split infinitive, I prefer it to call it “stuff we affectionately give.”

And “pod” — that comes from Apple, the company that invented the iPod that gave rise to the neologism podcast.

So that’s the etymology that brings us to “podswag” and the web address we use for our reward site, wng.org/podswag.

REICHARD: Yeah, when you’re telling a friend about the program, we ask that you take that extra step of helping get the program loaded onto his or her phone.

That’s the great thing about podcasts. You probably listen on your smartphone and so many of your friends have them, and that puts the program literally right in your pocket.

So in just a few minutes, you can dramatically increase the likelihood that The World and Everything in It grows into a daily habit.

EICHER: Yes, habits aren’t an exact science, but we have learned that getting over the initial hurdle, the technical hurdle, makes a big difference. And back to the original point, we recognize that’s a real effort on your part and we want not only to thank you for doing it, but make a demonstration of our thanks with our podswag rewards. So introduce three friends and claim your affectionately given podswag by signing up at wng.org/podswag, so we know who you are and where to send it.
