WORLD Radio - No easy exit

Kicker: What started as a walk home became a slow retreat from a pair of advancing wild turkeys that would not let up.

NICK EICHER, HOST: Well, file this one under, "when animals attack, Canada edition."

In the capital city Ottawa, a man was walking home from work when suddenly he found himself outnumbered and being followed.

Michael Bourgon says these were some wild turkeys.

BOURGON: They started coming at me. I was like, 'okay, whatever this is, I don’t want it.'

Yeah, you don’t know what they’ve got.

At first, he tried crossing the street, which didn’t work out very well; they stayed right on him.

Then he tried a display of aggression, which seemed to make things worse.

As described to Rebecca Zandbergen of CBC Ottawa:

RADIO HOST: At one point you turned around and kicked some snow at them.

VICTIM: Yeah, because at this point they were starting to like, they were giving me the business.

Giving him the business!

A corroborating witness captured the scene with his phone camera:

AUDIO: I happen to look over and see these two turkeys kind of attacking this poor guy.

So a good Samaritan offers a ride, Bourgon hops in, and just like that, the turkeys were out of business.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
