Listener Christmas reflections

NICK EICHER, HOST: It’s Christmas 2018. So glad you’re spending this time with us on this special day. Good morning. I’m Nick Eicher.

MARY REICHARD, HOST: And I’m Mary Reichard. You know, our staff has worked hard all year to bring you this program, and it’s good to hear their Christmas reflections.

But this is a family, and Christmas reflections wouldn’t be complete without hearing from you. So let’s close today by hearing from two WORLD Radio listeners.

EICHER: Here is Phillip Beach.

BEACH: Hi, my name is Phillip, and I’m a Jamaican-Canadian living in Toronto. Some of the things I look forward to at Christmas time are singing Christmas carols and seeing the Christmas lights—such a reminder that Christ came to die for sinners like me.

Beyond that, I also look forward to being with family and friends and just enjoying a really good meal, especially ham and to make a Christmas cake…  

REICHARD: I think we can all agree on that! Family and food…comfort and love.

EICHER: I completely agree.  And we’ll let this listener have the last word today.

RUSSELL: Christmas greetings! My name is Joy Russell. I’m somewhat from Duarte, California. I’ve been a Christian for over 40 years, but for some reason this year what Jesus has done for me, His dying in my place for my sins, has hit a deeper level than ever before. Therefore, Christmas, as we celebrate Jesus’ arrival here on earth—for without birth, there’d be no death—has taken on a deeper significance as well.

If I were to sum it up in one word, it would be freedom—freedom from the old patterns of wrong thinking; freedom from feeling the need to strive on my own; and freedom to be all the Joy—yes, that’s a pun on my name—He’s created me to be. Merry Christmas, y’all, and may you enjoy His freedom this Christmas season!
