NICK EICHER, HOST: New York City recently mailed a speeding ticket to an automotive museum near Chicago.
The violation involved a black Pontiac Trans Am bearing a vanity plate reading “KNIGHT” ... as in Knight Rider, the TV show from the 1980s that starred KITT, an artificially intelligent car decades before anyone had an inkling of AI.
Big problem though: The museum’s replica of KITT has not moved in years—let alone sped.
Yet traffic cameras in Brooklyn photographed what appeared to be an identical car speeding through a school zone.
Museum officials are contesting the fifty-dollar fine.
But if any vehicle ought to be able to sort out a case of mistaken identity, it’s the one that could talk, think, and fight crime.
It’s The World and Everything in It.
