WORLD Radio - Kicker: Wildlife imitating art

NICK EICHER, HOST: Sometimes life imitates art. Wildlife, anyway.

AUDIO: Is there honey in that pot? / Oh, yes, yes, of course. Help yourself!

EICHER: A young bear cub in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, helped itself to something more or less shaped like a honeypot. It turned out to be a thick ornamental globe. But just like Pooh Bear, this little cub got itself stuck inside.

A passerby noticed the distress and called authorities. They kept mama bear at bay while bear hunters worked to set her baby free.

Pliers didn’t work. Pruning shears didn’t work, either. It took the snip of a bolt cutter finally to free the young cub.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office posted a photo of the rescue on its Facebook page.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
