NICK EICHER, HOST: Simple Nature is a company that makes scented candles inspired by geography.
For example, “pacific”—featuring Citrus, Honeydew Melon, Violet, Oakmoss. Or “mojave”—Patchouli, Green Floral, Agave, Aloe.
But the Indiana-based company decided to get really edgy with the candle named for neighboring Ohio: It’s unscented.
The description of the candle can only be described as a burn without even striking a match. Here’s how it reads: “Not much to see. Not much to do. Welcome to Ohio.”
REICHARD: Whoa!
EICHER: Yeah, it prompted some pushback from the Ohio director of tourism. She didn’t much care for it, obviously.
But a lot of people evidently do. Simple Nature owner Derek Miles Taylor says he can hardly keep up with demand these days.
But I did a little poking around his site, and you need to know he’s not totally anti-Ohio. He made a Cincinnati one that was oakmoss and amber, which by the way is the exact same scent as the candle inspired by his home-state capital, Indianapolis.
It’s The World and Everything in It.
