NICK EICHER, HOST: Hundreds of cyclists pedaled their way across the state of Maine this month raising money for the American Lung Association.
The 180-mile trek is challenging for any cyclist. But for Hugh Sharp it was even more impressive.
It took him a little longer than the others to cross the finish line. Understandable. He did it on one wheel.
REICHARD: Yay! A unicyclist!
EICHER: It’s amazing you can ride one of those. But can you imagine 180 miles?!
REICHARD: I cannot, but I tip my cap!
EICHER: Hugh Sharp is a nurse and he pedaled in honor of his father, who two years ago died from lung disease, COPD.
Sharp says unicycling is a family affair.
SHARP: All three of my kids, Milo, Otto and Cleo learned.
His youngest learned when she just six! This was before she could even ride a bicycle!
REICHARD: That’s impressive!
EICHER: It’s The World and Everything in It.
