WORLD Radio - Kicker: Toppled dominoes

NICK EICHER, HOST: Imagine this: You’ve just put in two weeks painstakingly aligning more than half-a-million tiny dominoes. You and your team of 20 are setting out to break a Guinness world record for most dominoes toppled in a chain reaction.

Then something even smaller than your dominoes, but with wings, a little flying insect…

REICHARD: Oh, no.

Yeah, afraid so.

A video captured the moment in Germany when the insect made its way inside the building and landed on one of the dominoes near the center of the spiral.

And you’ve already guessed what happened next. The chain reaction began, but onlookers had no idea it was a problem. It was pretty spectacular.

SOUND: [Domino display falling]

As the dominos fell, so too did their hopes of setting that particular world record.

But look on the bright side.

REICHARD: There’s a bright side?!

Yeah. The insect landed near the beginning of the set, so even though it shortened the run, it did last 15 minutes, and that was long enough to capture three lesser world records.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
