NICK EICHER, HOST: You know, there are just some people who are in the wrong place at the wrong time. But sometimes you come across someone in the right place at the right time.
As Exhibit A, I refer to Jimmy and Laura Baker.
Now, when you hear their story, you won’t automatically think that. Because, just like wrong-place/wrong-time people, they were speeding down the highway when they passed a cop.
The North Carolina highway patrolman flipped on his lights and pulled ’em over.
Sergeant Brian Maynard told WRAL-TV what happened next.
MAYNARD: When I stopped my car, he got out and said that his wife is in labor and he was trying to get to the hospital. And I said right now? And he said yeah right now!
EICHER: Right place, right time. They were en-route to the hospital, but the baby wasn’t waiting. So Sergeant Maynard helped deliver the baby right there on the side of the road.
He called the experience “scary” and “rewarding.”
They made their way to the hospital and mom and baby girl are doing fine.
Speaking of fine, the Bakers didn’t have to pay one. But that’s not the easiest or most convenient way to get out of a speeding ticket!
