WORLD Radio - Kicker: The long return

A borrowed magazine finally makes its way back to a New Hampshire library—132 years after it was due back. The timing, oddly enough, turns out to be excellent—right as the library tests a late-fee freeze.

NICK EICHER, HOST: A New Hampshire library has finally gotten back a magazine due in 1894. (I did not say 1984. I said 1894.)

The magazine returned 48,220 days late.

The fine: $12,055.

Now, the man who brought it back is 84 years old, and he was not the original borrower. (That would not be possible.) He was just the good Samaritan who found it.

Thankfully, the library is testing a fine freeze, so the bill is actually zero. After 132 years, finally some good timing. The only good timing in this entire sad episode.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
