Kicker: The Chinatown Otter

NICK EICHER, HOST: A thief with exquisite taste is at large in Vancouver. The scofflaw apparently made off with thousands of dollars worth of valuables.

Authorities have the suspects pared back to somewhere between 15 and 30 possible culprits.

That’s because there aren’t very many known river otters living nearby.

Yeah, this bandit is known as the “Chinatown Otter,” because he or she raided the koi pond at a Chinese garden and poached 14 prized koi fish.

These beautiful fish are valued at up to $5,000 each.

Now, the Chinatown Otter has a Twitter account, and I suspect a terms-of-service violation here. But despite the notoriety, the park director says his staff has been unable to catch the furry scavenger.

They almost did, but a small jam prevented the baited trap from closing.

Now, Mary, before you jump in here and offer to represent this scoundrel:

REICHARD: You read my mind!

The plan is to capture and relocate the Chinatown otter. Fair enough?

REICHARD: Fair enough.

For now, they’re relocating the koi, which to the fish has to seem patently unfair.
