NICK EICHER, HOST: Retail stores are all too familiar with thieves hiding merchandise inside a baby stroller. But that doesn’t happen very often at aquariums.
Police say two men plucked a small shark from an interactive touch tank at the San Antonio Aquarium. They dropped it in a bucket filled with water, wrapped that in a blanket, and smuggled it out in the stroller.
But police recovered the shark last week in a home with lots of fish tanks.
A San Antonio Aquarium spokesperson said the staff there thought they’d never see the shark again.
AUDIO: We couldn’t believe it. At first we were like, really?! And then when I actually saw it I was like, ‘Oh my goodness that’s her!’ And so, she’s very healthy.
The suspects have confessed to the sharknapping, but they say they’re not thieves. They are activists. They swiped the shark because they didn’t think it was well-cared for.
