NICK EICHET, HOST: An elementary school in rural Wyoming is set to reopen after being closed for a decade.
The Albany County School District doesn’t have a computer lab—nor a playground, gym, or cafeteria. On the bright side, no student will ever have to worry about being called to the principal’s office. It doesn’t have one of those, either.
That’s because the class size at Cozy Hollow School is very cozy — it’s one. That’s right, the school will serve precisely one student who is set to begin kindergarten this fall.
It’s not very efficient, but state law requires this: It provides for on-site education when it’s impossible to transport students to other schools. Cozy Hollow is the second one-student school in the district. They’re only a few miles apart, but connecting roads are impassable much of the winter.
The lone student’s younger sibling is set to enroll in a couple years, and so you could say Cozy Hollow School is projected to double in size!
It’s The World and Everything in It.
